How to handle pressure points in Tennis matches

How to handle pressure points in Tennis matches

Pressure situations are not good for most of us whether in real life or in a tennis match unless you are somebody who performs better while in pressure. Pressure is a state of mind in a crucial tennis match where we are not able to perform as per the expectation or as per our full potential. We tend to make mistakes during pressure situations which we do not make in general and many times lose a match which otherwise would have won easily in a non-pressure situation. While taking Private tennis lessons , it must be taught to the players from their childhood about dealing with such pressure situations and come out victorious. Below are few tips which could help them to deal with such intense pressure situations in a match.

1. A pressure point is the same for your opponent too

One of the most important things to be remembered if you are in a crucial pressure point in a match is that your opponent is having the same feeling too and he is also dealing with the same pressure as you so his chances of choking is equal to yours. So, just relax and without panicking, play your natural game and you will realize that you have overcome the situation with ease.

2. Focus on things only which you can control

Controlling the pressure might not be in your hands but playing your natural game is surely in your hands. You have been practicing those shots every day for hours and you just have to execute them properly during those pressure points without getting panicked. The problem is that when we take a lot of pressure, we tend to play loose shots so just play on your own merits, follow the strategy of your coach and carry on.

3. Try to create pressure on your opponent

Another good way to release tension, stress and pressure is to make sure that instead of focusing on your game and panicking if something goes wrong, just try to dominate your opponent and create pressure on them. As said earlier, your opponent is in the same situation as yours and if you are able to create more pressure on them, rest assured they will panic more than you and your winning chances will increase.

4. Stabilize your mind

Most of the reputed tennis courses Dubai focus on strengthening the psychology and mental strength of the players so that they do not panic or choke under pressure situations. Activities like Yoga and meditation can help you to strengthen your mind and you are able to perform better in pressure points because these activities help you in keeping a control over your emotions during crucial matches.

5. Have confidence on yourself

One of the major reasons why most of the players are not able to perform is that during pressure situations, you start losing confidence in yourself and start making errors which normally you don’t make during practice sessions. You start playing loose shots and start overdoing things to just win that one point eventually losing the entire match. Make sure you never lose confidence.

6. Don’t expect too much from yourself

Always remember that if you expect too much from yourself you will put yourself under immense pressure and that will reflect in your game. There is a difference between positive hope and too much expectations and the latter must always be avoided so that you are able to give your best on court. Always play in positive spirits no matter what the situations are because expecting too much will destroy your game.

Client Success Story

my coach is Chetun, I’ve been taking his class, both group one and individual one, both are great!!! He’s experienced coach, knows how to teach, especially for entry -intermediate level players. They also provide good racket (better if they replace some old strings). Very prime location and relatively good price for this quality.
