Tennis is a tough sport that takes a toll on your mind and body as every shot you play is challenging enough for your mind and body to function at its fullest which is why it is extremely important that your mind is as much trained and fit for the sport as your body is. No wonder why, mental exercises like Yoga and meditation are a part of the training programs in all the tennis coaching in Dubai and across the world. One of the simplest ways to overcome and manage stress of the game or the tournament is to start enjoying it. Although, it is a lot more difficult to actually enjoy the stress rather than being told so in this article, we will be discussing how to efficiently manage and enjoy the stress of the competition so that you can focus more on the game rather than taking unnecessary pressure on yourself.
1. Love the sport
One of the most important things to actually enjoy the stress is to love the game as much as possible. It is very obvious that you love the sport you play but if you truly do, you will understand that winning and losing all comes under the sport and if you love the sport, you will never run away from losing. The love for the sport will definitely make you enjoy every moment you spend on the court during the competition and when you enjoy being somewhere, winning and losing hardly matters. You obviously will have to give your best to win on the court but only by keeping the match stress away. Feeling light in mind will make you do less errors and your opponent more.
2. Accept losses
There are many amatuer players who are not ready to accept losses and go berserk when they are defeated. They hardly know that this broken mental level in the current match affects the next and upcoming matches and tournaments as well because they are completely demotivated. Only because you think that you cannot lose, you end up giving more pain to your mind and body which doesn’t change the results. The day you accept losses is the day you start to enjoy the game in a real sense and always keep yourself free from stress and tension. In this way, you play your natural game and are able to win matches that you could have otherwise lost.
3. Always give your best on the court
The feeling of satisfaction when you have given your best shot on the court is awesome and that feeling wipes the pain of the loss. In a sport, someone has to lose so why not give your best till you are in the match and enjoy every moment you spend on the court. As soon as you start enjoying on the court, your shot selection and the execution of those shots improve drastically which improves the game and turns the match in your favour at times.
4. Learn from the champions
As a professional tennis player, you watch tennis matches on television not only to enjoy the matches but to learn as many things as possible from the legends. Even in the toughest situations like a tiebreaker in the final set, you will never see big players in a stressed position, rather you will see them smiling and in a cool mood. This is what makes them legends and this is exactly what you must learn from them. Enjoying the stress makes you a positive player on court and that positivity changes many things that are against you.
